Guild Group

Posted 5/11/22

Hi Everyone,
Thanks for the productive meeting and we were just hitting our groove when the Zoom timed out. Sorry for that. I got the Guild Zoom account info straightened out and we should be good to go for a full hour this time. I think normally we will have a meeting less frequently, but let’s keep the momentum going while we can. Although it may not seem like we are doing much, we are actually doing the most important work of creating a foundation of trust and good relationships so that we can have productive sharing of our writing in a safe space.

Meeting: Tuesday 5/17 4:30-5:30p.m.

Please use the Zoom link at the bottom of this email and also it will be posted on the website as usual.
1. Brief introductions if new member arrives
2. Round table check in. I will call on each person so everyone has a chance. It’s okay to pass. Question: what are you working on, OR how are you feeling about writing lately?
3. Heather sharing “Brave Space” poem
4. Creating collaborative group norms & the concept of critical commentary in writing
5. Talk about next meeting time
6. Open floor for reading brief excerpts of your writing. (3 minutes or less at first). Only positive encouragement for now. Once we establish a base of trust, we can move to critical feedback if we choose.

Hello Fellow Writers!

The meeting for tonight Sunday 4/24 has been cancelled. Please see the email I just sent out.

We will have a slight adjustment to our two (what I’m calling) “micro meetings” to make introductions and accommodate everyone’s busy schedules, including mine! You may attend one or both of the meetings! Zoom links and passwords will be emailed out the morning of the meeting.

Micro Meeting #1: Thursday April 28, 5-5:30p.m.

Micro Meeting #2: Sunday May 1, 5- 5:30p.m.

Agenda for each meeting:

  1. Round Table Introductions: (3 minutes or less, please). Feel free to talk about whatever you like, but only what you are comfortable sharing of course. Here are some suggestions: name, where you reside, what you do for a living, why you write, why you joined the group, what you hope to get out of this, what writing goals do you have?
  2. Future Meeting Logistics: Plan next meeting: Zoom or in person? Location ideas?
  3. Round Table Writing Projects: What is each person working on? Please state only the title & genre (because we have limited time)
  4. Goal Setting Challenge: Based on suggestions, pick a writing goal out of your comfort zone (More explanation on this)

What to Prepare:

  1. 3 minute or shorter introduction of yourself
  2. If you have time, research local publishing opportunities. Examples: Rain Magazine, The Squid, blogs, etc.

Can’t wait to see you there!

An Invitation to a Brave Space

Together we will create brave space

Because there is no such thing as a “safe space.” —

We exist in the Real World

We all carry scars and we have all caused wounds

in this space.

We seek to turn down the volume of the outside world.

We amplify voices that fight to be heard elsewhere,

We call each other to more truth and love

We have the right to start somewhere and continue to grow.

We have the responsibility to examine what we think we know.

We will not be perfect.

It will not always be what we wish it to be

It will be our brave space together

We will work on it side by side.
